The species Streptoverticillium lilacinum was originally described by Locci et al. 1969. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1990, Witt and Stackebrandt established as the basonym of (Nakazawa et al. 1956) Witt and Stackebrandt 1991 .
