The genus Planopolyspora was originally proposed by Petrolini et al. 1993. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 47 in 1993. Kudo et al. transferred the members of this genus into Yokota et al. 1993 emend. Kudo et al. 1999 in 1999.
