Nomenclatural History
The species Falcivibrio vaginalis was originally described by Hammann et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 15 in 1984. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. Nouioui et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of (Spiegel and Roberts 1984) Nouioui et al. 2018 in 2018. Nouioui et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Spiegel and Roberts 1984 in 2018.

Nouioui et al. 2018 established that Falcivibrio vaginalis is not a later heterotypic synonym of Mobiluncus curtisii, but rather a later heterotypic synonym of Mobiluncus curtisii subsp. holmesii, which they also elevated in rank to species, causing Falcivibrio vaginalis to become an earlier heterotypic synonym of Mobiluncus holmesii.
