The species Borrelia valaisiana was originally described and validly published by Wang et al. 1997. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. In 2014, Adeolu and Gupta established as the basonym of (Wang et al. 1997) Adeolu and Gupta 2018 .
