Nomenclatural History
The species Treponema minutum was originally described by Dobell 1912. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980.

CIPP 5162 does not appear to be available from any public culture collection. It is possible that this is a typographical error as this acronym appears only once in the Approved Lists. The Approved Lists references Bergey's 8th Edition as the source, however, Treponema minutum Dobell 1912 does not appear nor does a reference to Dobell. The only mention of this name that does appear in Bergey's 8 is to what appears to Treponema minutum Noguchi 1918 (pro. synon. Treponema refingens (Schaudinn and Hoffman 1905) Castellani and Chalmers 1919)). This name appears to be illegitimate.
