The species Anaerorhabdus furcosa was originally described by Shah and Collins 1986. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 22 in 1986. Euzeby and Boemare corrected this name from (sic) to . Shah and Collins formed this name in 1986 by placing the species (Veillon and Zuber 1898) Hauduroy et al. 1937 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Shah and Collins 1986.
