Nomenclatural History

The species Megamonas hypermegale was originally described by Shah and Collins 1982. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 10 in 1983. Euzéby corrected this name from Megamonas hypermegas (sic) to Megamonas hypermegale . Shah and Collins formed this name in 1982 by placing the species
Bacteroides hypermegas Harrison and Hansen 1963 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Megamonas Shah and Collins 1983.
