Nomenclatural History

The species Porphyromonas salivosa was originally described and validly published by Love et al. 1992. Love et al. formed this name in 1992 by placing the species
Bacteroides salivosus Love et al. 1987
into the genus Porphyromonas Shah and Collins 1988 emend. Kawamura et al. 2015. Love established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Bacteroides macacae (Slots and Genco 1980) Coykendall et al. 1980
in 1995.
