The species Flexibacter aggregans was originally described by Leadbetter 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Hosoya and Yokota established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Lewin 1970 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Hosoya and Yokota 2007 in 2007.
