Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. The species Cytophaga agarovorans was originally described by Veldkamp 1961. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1989 the name was revived by Reichenbach. In 1996, Nakagawa and Yamasato established Cytophaga agarovorans as the basonym of
Marinilabilia agarovorans (Reichenbach 1989) Nakagawa and Yamasato 1996
