The species Cytophaga arvensicola was originally described by Oyaizu et al. 1982. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 10 in 1983. In 2006, Kämpfer et al. established Cytophaga arvensicola as the basonym of
Chitinophaga arvensicola (Oyaizu et al. 1983) Kämpfer et al. 2006 emend. García-López et al. 2019
