Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. The species Cytophaga diffluens was originally described by Stanier 1940. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1989 the name was revived by Reichenbach. In 1997, Nakagawa et al. established Cytophaga diffluens as the basonym of
Persicobacter diffluens (Reichenbach 1989) Nakagawa et al. 1997 emend. Muramatsu et al. 2010
