Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. The species Cytophaga saccharophila was originally described by Agbo and Moss 1979. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1989 the name was revived by Reichenbach. In 1996, Bernardet et al. established Cytophaga saccharophila as the basonym of
Flavobacterium saccharophilum (Reichenbach 1989) Bernardet et al. 1996 emend. García-López et al. 2019
