Nomenclatural History
The order Verrucomicrobiales was originally proposed by Ward-Rainey et al. 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 57 in 1996. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 79 in 2005. Yoon et al. published an emended description of this order in 2008.
