The species Herbaspirillum autotrophicum was originally described and validly published by Ding and Yokota 2004. Ding and Yokota formed this name in 2004 by placing the species Aragno and Schlegel 1978 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Baldani et al. 1986 emend. Carro et al. 2012.
