The species Lactobacillus gastricus was originally described and validly published by Roos et al. 2005. Endo et al. published an emended description of this species in 2008. In 2020, Zheng et al. established Lactobacillus gastricus as the basonym of
Limosilactobacillus gastricus (Roos et al. 2005) Zheng et al. 2020
