The species Virgibacillus halodenitrificans was originally described and validly published by Yoon et al. 2004. Yoon et al. formed this name in 2004 by placing the species Denariaz et al. 1989 into the genus Heyndrickx et al. 1998 emend. Heyrman et al. 2003.
