The species Chainia poonensis was originally described by Thirumalachar 1960. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Garrity et al. established Chainia poonensis as an earlier homotypic synonym of
Streptomyces poonensis (Thirumalachar 1960) Pridham 1970 (Approved Lists 1980) pro synon. Chainia poonensis Thirumalachar 1960 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2007.
