The species Bacterionema matruchotii was originally described by Gilmour et al. 1961. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1982, Collins established as the basonym of (Mendel 1919) Collins 1983 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018 .
