The species Chainia fumigata was originally described by Thirumalachar et al. 1966. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Goodfellow et al. established Chainia fumigata as an earlier homotypic synonym of
Streptomyces fumigatiscleroticus (ex Pridham 1970) Goodfellow et al. 1986 pro synon. Chainia fumigata Thirumalachar et al. 1966 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1986.
