The species Kitasatoa nagasakiensis was originally described by Matsumae et al. 1968. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Goodfellow et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Kitasatoa purpurea Matsumae et al. 1968 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1986.
