The species Lucibacterium harveyi was originally described by Hendrie et al. 1970. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1980, Baumann et al. established as the basonym of (Johnson and Shunk 1936) Baumann et al. 1981 . Skerman et al. established as an earlier homotypic synonym of (Johnson and Shunk 1936) Reichelt and Baumann 1973 (Approved Lists 1980) pro synon. Lucibacterium harveyi (Johnson and Shunk 1936) Hendrie et al. 1970 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1980.
