The species Beneckea parahaemolytica was originally described by Baumann et al. 1971. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Garrity et al. established Beneckea parahaemolytica as an earlier homotypic synonym of
Vibrio parahaemolyticus (Fujino et al. 1951) Sakazaki et al. 1963 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. West et al. 1986 pro synon. Beneckea parahaemolytica (Fujino et al. 1951) Baumann et al. 1971 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2007.
