The genus Levinea was originally proposed by Young et al. 1971. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Farmer transferred the members of this genus into
Citrobacter Werkman and Gillen 1932 emend. Sakazaki 1974 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1981.
