Nomenclatural History
|
The species Aquaspirillum serpens was originally described by Hylemon et al. 1973. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Boivin et al. published an emended description of this species in 1985. Boivin et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Aquaspirillum bengal Kumar et al. 1974 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1985. In 2005, Pot and Gillis reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Aquaspirillum serpens serpens (Müller 1786) Pot and Gillis 2005
