The species Caseobacter polymorphus was originally described by Crombach 1978. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Collins et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Corynebacterium variabile corrig. (Müller 1961) Collins 1987
in 1989.
