Nomenclatural History
Baumann et al. corrected this name from (sic) to . The species Beneckea nereis was originally described by Baumann et al. 1971. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1980 the name was revived and validly published by Harwood et al.. In 1980, Baumann et al. established as the basonym of (Harwood et al. 1980) Baumann et al. 1981 .
