Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 25 in 1988. The species Desulfotomaculum antarcticum was originally described by Iizuka et al. 1969. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1986 the name was revived by Campbell and Singleton.
