The genus Halorubrobacterium was originally proposed by Kamekura and Dyall-Smith 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 57 in 1996. Oren and Ventosa transferred the members of this genus into
Halorubrum McGenity and Grant 1996 emend. Oren et al. 2009
in 1996.
