The species Sphingobium chungbukense was originally described and validly published by Pal et al. 2005. Pal et al. formed this name in 2005 by placing the species
Sphingomonas chungbukensis Kim et al. 2000
into the genus Sphingobium Takeuchi et al. 2001 emend. Li et al. 2013.
