The species Desulfotomaculum carboxydivorans was originally described and validly published by Parshina et al. 2005. Visser et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Werkman and Weaver 1927) Campbell and Postgate 1965 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Visser et al. 2014 in 2014.
