The species Sulfurimonas denitrificans was originally described and validly published by Takai et al. 2006. Takai et al. formed this name in 2006 by placing the species
Thiomicrospira denitrificans Timmer-ten Hoor 1975 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Sulfurimonas Inagaki et al. 2003 emend. Wang et al. 2020.
