Nomenclatural History

The species Citreicella thiooxidans was originally described by Sorokin et al. 2005. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 107 in 2006. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. In 2018, Wirth and Whitman established Citreicella thiooxidans as the basonym of
Salipiger thiooxidans (Sorokin et al. 2006) Wirth and Whitman 2018 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
