Garrity et al. 2005 originally placed Seliberia in the Hyphomicrobiaceae. This genus was transferred into the Bradyrhizobiaceae by Velázquez et al. 2015 and later transferred back to Hyphomicrobiaceae by Hördt et al. 2020.
