The species Rhodobacter azotoformans was originally described by Hiraishi et al. 1996. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 61 in 1997. In 2019, Suresh et al. established as the basonym of (Hiraishi et al. 1997) Suresh et al. 2020 . In 2020, Hördt et al. established as the basonym of (Hiraishi et al. 1997) Hördt et al. 2020 .
