The species Sphingomonas cloacae was originally described and validly published by Fujii et al. 2001. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. In 2006, Prakash and Lal established Sphingomonas cloacae as the basonym of
Sphingobium cloacae (Fujii et al. 2001) Prakash and Lal 2006 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
