Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Zymomonas mobilis mobilis was originally described by Kluyver and van Niel 1936. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 86 in 2008. De Ley and Swings published an emended description of this subspecies in 1976. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Coton et al. in 2006. In 1980, Skerman et al. reduced (Lindner 1928) Kluyver and van Niel 1936 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Hördt et al. 2020 to the rank of subspecies.
