Nomenclatural History
The genus Bartonella was originally proposed by Strong et al. 1915. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Weinman published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Brenner et al. in 1993 and Birtles et al. in 1995. Brenner et al. transferred the members of (Macchiavello 1947) Krieg 1961 emend. Weiss and Moulder 1974 (Approved Lists 1980) into this genus in 1993. Birtles et al. transferred the members of (ex Brumpt 1911) Ristic and Kreier 1984 into this genus in 1995.
