Nomenclatural History
The species Methylobacterium extorquens was originally described and validly published by Bousfield and Green 1985. Kato et al. published an emended description of this species in 2008. Bousfield and Green formed this name in 1985 by placing the species (ex Bassalik 1913) Urakami and Komagata 1984 into the genus Patt et al. 1976 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Alessa et al. 2021. Kato et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of McDonald et al. 2001 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 in 2005. Kato et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Doronina et al. 2000 in 2005. In 2018, Green and Ardley established as the basonym of (Urakami and Komagata 1984) Green and Ardley 2018 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 .
