Nomenclatural History	The species Protomonas extorquens was originally described by Bassalik 1913. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1984 the name was revived and validly published by Urakami and Komagata. In 1985, Bousfield and Green established Protomonas extorquens as the basonym of Methylobacterium extorquens (Urakami and Komagata 1984) Bousfield and Green 1985 emend. Kato et al. 2008 .
