The subspecies Alcaligenes faecalis faecalis was originally described by Castellani and Chalmers 1919. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1981, Austin et al. reduced
Alcaligenes faecalis Castellani and Chalmers 1919 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Rehfuss and Urban 2005
to the rank of subspecies.
