Nomenclatural History
|
The species Spirillum volutans was originally described by Ehrenberg 1832. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980.
The type strain of the type species has been reportedly lost and a Request for an Opinion has been submitted. However, there is no evidence that the authors have attempted to find a replacement strain. This is the subject of the unpublished Opinion 103.
