Nomenclatural History
The species Xanthomonas campestris was originally described by Dowson 1939. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. van den Mooter and Swings published an emended description of this species in 1990. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Vauterin et al. in 1995. This name replaces the name (Pammel 1895) Bergey et al. 1923 .
