Nomenclatural History
The genus Thiothrix was originally proposed by Winogradsky 1888. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Brock published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Howarth et al. in 1999, Aruga et al. in 2002 and Boden and Scott in 2018.
