Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Oceanospirillum beijerinckii beijerinckii was originally described and validly published by Pot et al. 1989. In 1989, Pot et al. reduced (Williams and Rittenberg 1957) Hylemon et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Pot et al. 1989 to the rank of subspecies.

Satomi et al. (2002) assert that this subspecies should be rejected, which would effectively undo the changes made by Pot et al. (1989). However, no formal request for opinion was made and the subspecies continue to have standing in nomenclature.
