The species Moraxella anatipestifer was originally described by Bruner and Fabricant 1954. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1993, Segers et al. established Moraxella anatipestifer as the basonym of
Riemerella anatipestifer (Hendrickson and Hilbert 1932) Segers et al. 1993 emend. Rubbenstroth et al. 2013
