Nomenclatural History
The species Moraxella catarrhalis was originally described by Henriksen and Bøvre 1968. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Catlin established as an earlier homotypic synonym of (Frosch and Kolle 1896) Catlin 1970 (Approved Lists 1980) pro synon. Moraxella catarrhalis (Frosch and Kolle 1896) Henriksen and Bøvre 1968 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1970. In 2007, Garrity et al. established as the basonym of (Frosch and Kolle 1896) Bøvre 1979 .
