Nomenclatural History
The species Shewanella algae was originally described and validly published by Simidu et al. 1990. Trüper and De' Clari corrected this name from (sic) to . Nozue et al. published an emended description of this species in 1992. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Szeinbaum et al. in 2018. Szeinbaum et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Kim et al. 2007 in 2018.
