Nomenclatural History
|
The genus Vibrio was originally proposed by Pacini 1854. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum conservanda by Judicial Opinion 31 in 1965. Shewan and Veron published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Baumann et al. transferred the members of
Lucibacterium Hendrie et al. 1970 (Approved Lists 1980)
into this genus in 1980. Baumann et al. transferred the members of
Beneckea Campbell 1957 (Approved Lists 1980)
into this genus in 1980. Farmer established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Allomonas Kalina et al. 1984
in 1989. Thompson et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Listonella MacDonell and Colwell 1986
in 2011.
