Nomenclatural History
|
The species Vibrio harveyi was originally described by Baumann et al. 1980. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 6 in 1981. Baumann et al. formed this name in 1980 by placing the species
Lucibacterium harveyi (Johnson and Shunk 1936) Hendrie et al. 1970 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Vibrio Pacini 1854 emend. Shewan and Veron 1974 (Approved Lists 1980). Pedersen et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Vibrio carchariae Grimes et al. 1985
in 1998. Thompson et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Vibrio trachuri Iwamoto et al. 1996
in 2002.
